Midwest Solar Challenges
Overview
2008 was a perfect storm for renewable energy in America. Two wars in the Middle East, a critical focus on green house gas emissions and significant fossil fuel price fluctuation resulted in a keen focus on the U.S. becoming energy independent in the near future.
Our focus on the Photovoltaic (PV) solar marketplace will be part of the solution.
The solar energy marketplace in the Midwest has several (real and perceived) challenges to overcome in order to be developed on a large scale.
These include:
- Lack of awareness of the Midwest’s significant solar resources (sun hours).
- Financial gap between the cost of system and economic returns.
- Cold weather climates require a specialized knowledge of PV system design.
- No Midwest Renewable Energy Credit (REC) to aid in financing of PV systems.
