Power Purchase Agreements

A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is a long term contract to buy power between an energy producer and an energy consumer.  The energy producer finances and installs a solar system, often on the energy consumer’s site, and then sells the energy produced by the system to the energy consumer over a 5-20 year period.  As a result, solar installations are easier for organizations to afford because they avoid the high upfront costs of the solar equipment and installation.  It also allows the energy consumer the ability to lock in their electrical rate for the length of the contract.
